So something I've been wanting to do for a while is to write about my favorite products, test and discuss new products, and have discussions about general questions/misconceptions about makeup/skincare/hair products.
I'm excited to see how this blog develops and changes with this new edition!
I am so excited to announce my partnership with OffBeat Bride!! They are a lovely website that caters to couples who may want elements that stray from the oft-walked path. They also cater to LGBT weddings, which is where a lot of my passions lie. I'm a strong advocate for equality, and I have worked with the LGBT community for years. I am looking forward to seeing how this partnership grows!!
Here's an example of a wedding i did a few years ago for the sweet Sandi Jo and her Sasquatch!
Today the ruling was handed down, 5-4 in favor of national law being that now all peoples can enjoy the right to get married. My heart is so full of love, tears and glitter that I can hardly keep it in! This is a huge step for the LBGTQA movement, a huge step in the direction of equality for all humans. This means that everyone can qualify for partners' benefits, they can be their acting guardian in times of dire need, they can even BE IN THE HOSPITAL ROOM WHILE THIER LOVED ONE IS SICK (can you imagine being turned away from the one you love in their most needed time? CAN YOU??)
There are so many boundaries that this ruling knocks down and I couldn't be more inspired, happy, and proud for my friends, family, and queer community across the United States. Love WINS!
Here is a great article from BuzzFeed that says a lot of what I want to say, but more eloquently and features families voices!
Oh my goodness... I finally understand my brides fully, this wedding planning is NUTS! Im already swimming with ideas, and I have over a year!
A few tidbits that have helped me thus far -
1.) Get a beautiful notebook and special pen for everything wedding related. You NEED a safe, special place to write down lists, your thoughts, feelings, to tape receipts and postcards, etc. Its the one place you can come to, re read, and put down your plans so they don't get lost in the shuffle. Added bonus - if these items are beautiful and make you HAPPY, you'll associate these items with JOY, and wedding plans will become less stressful!
2.) Wedding websites - bookmark, bookmark, bookmark! Stories, leads, ideas, etc. Pinterest has become my BEST FRIEND. I have several boards for hair and makeup ideas, arrangements, cakes, etc. It makes trying to download, save, print, clip, etc a thing of the past. Plus you can create a 'board' to send to florists, caterers, etc and they have a visual account to go back to and reference! Easy!
My favorites -
1.) Style Me Pretty
2.) Offbeat Bride
3.) This article about other top niche sites!
3.) Friends - ASK EM! Ask for advice, ask for help, ask for hugs and support. They are there for YOU!
4.) Biggest tip - remember why they day will be, and who its for. No one will remember what food you served, or your shoes. They will remember your LOVE, and that you shared your love with them.
As we move into a new month and second half of 2014 (already????), I want to take a moment to meditate on my work this year thus far, and the amazing people who have contributed to it.
I worked with my amazingly talented friend and photographer Dee Hill a lot this year, and every shoot was incredible. We worked with lots of beautiful women this year, and I fall a little in love with each of them.
I continued my work as part of the Burlesque Experience Team, headed by Lisa Carmen, and this also feeds my soul. We take everyday women and lead them on a journey to find their inner goddess yearning to shimmy out. Dee and I work together for their transformative shoots, and each one is a blessing. Each woman teaches me something new to cherish and take with me.
Ive also created some amazing art with photographers like Ben Britt, Lisa Loving and Marcus Lopez (just to name a few).
I worked with a lot of new brides, and being a part of their important day means so much to me, thank you to each of your for sharing it with me and letting me make you shine!
These are only a few of the wonderful things Ive accomplished so far this year, and to everyone Ive worked with, and will work with in the latter half of 2014 - let's do it!
My first blog! I'm so happy to share my experience, knowledge, and history with you all!
This is a throwback for sure! This is from a wonderful shoot I did in Houston with Koby and Terilyn brown of Archetype Photography. The model is their good friend Misty, and she was an absolute pleasure to work with! I was incredibly nervous, as I hadnt really done a lot of photo shoots but i was really excited for this experience!
